Asymptomatic Ethmoid Sinus Osteoma on Evaluation of an Incidental Sinus Radiopacity

A 29-year-old male was referred for evaluation of an incidental finding described as a small radiopaque calcification in the upper right sinus. The radiologist identified a rounded, dense radiopacity in the right ethmoid sinus with radiographic features consistent with an osteoma, a benign bony overgrowth. The sinuses were otherwise completely clear and the patient was asymptomatic, and the radiologist noted that in the absence of symptoms or obstruction of sinus drainage, no treatment is indicated for osteomas. The radiologist highlighted this as an important case because it demonstrates that an osteoma can be present without causing any issues for the patient, so there is no need for further intervention or for causing the patient unnecessary concern.
