Dr. Wood graduated with his DDS. MSc, and Diploma in Oral Radiology from the University of Toronto under Dr. Doug Stoneman and Dr. Mike Pharoah and rheumatologist Dr. Peter Lee.  Then he went overseas to study under Prof C.J. “Curly” Nortje and developed a life-long friendship with both Curly and Africa. He obtained a PhD at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and assists graduate students there with theses and research ideas and planning. He also completed his FRCD (C) in Maxillofacial Radiology and was Chief Examiner of the Radiology Section of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada for many years.

He is Chief Emeritus of Dentistry at the UHN and Princess Margaret Hospital where he was a “wet-fingered dentist” for over 30 years. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Odontology in 2004 and served on the research committee and certification and examination committees. He has been the Chief Forensic Odontologist for the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service/Ontario Coroner’s Office for nearly 30 years and had a case go before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Bob is an Associate Professor and member of Graduate Faculty at the University of Toronto where he still helps graduate students. He has in excess of 135 publications and book contributions, 40 abstracts and lectures and helped produce content for the CDA Oasis knowledge transfer website. His spare time is spent with his wife of nearly 40 years Joan, and his dog of nine years Huckleberry – a Nova Scotia Duck-tolling retriever. Bob also fly-fishes when he gets a chance and is an avid nature photographer and bird-lover. In 1999 Bob received the prestigious Ontario Amethyst award for his work at Swissair 111 and in 2021 received the Canadian Dental Association Award of Merit.
