Dr. Manal Hamdan graduated from the University of Jordan with a dental degree. She worked in general dentistry for two years before deciding to pursue a career in Oral Radiology.
She received her master's degree and certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from the University of North Carolina Adams College of Dentistry. Her research interests include artificial intelligence applications in dentistry and stationary intraoral tomosynthesis. Her master's thesis aimed at detecting apical radiolucencies with deep learning technology.
She received two awards at the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology's annual meeting in 2020: the Albert G. Richards Award and the Best Research Poster Award. She has also received the Academic Excellence Award, the Ann and G. Randolph Babcock Fellowship, and the Elsie and Baxter Sapp Fellowship. Dr. Hamdan will begin an adjunct appointment at the University of North Carolina in December 2021.
