The advanced multi-disciplinary use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) 3D technology has enabled for more comprehensive identification of dental problems and to make better treatment decisions. BeamReaders focus on helping dental practices achieve their goals to elevate patient-based care. Dr. Hema Udupa

Dr. Hema Udupa obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from India, completed General Practice Residency in Dentistry, a certificate and master’s degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio . She is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR).

Dr. Udupa has been involved in academia for the past 20 years and has held many positions such as clinical director, course director, and program director. In addition to being involved in academia, she maintains an active radiology practice with focus on radiologic reporting and diagnostic consultations in three-dimensional dental imaging.

Her research area has been diverse and includes both clinical and lab studies involving digital imaging, interpretation of advanced oral and maxillofacial imaging like Cone Beam Computed Tomography related to dental implant treatment planning, TMJ, and maxillofacial pathology and innovative educational strategies in teaching Radiology. She has published articles in Journal of Oral Hygiene and Health, Journal of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology.

Dr. Udupa has held many active roles such as chief resident during her residency, served as co-chair of the resident liaison committee of American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, currently serves on various committees in the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR) and is the co-chair of the Allied Health Radiology Education Committee. She has received many recognitions such as the distinguished Howard Riley Raper award from the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology for her interest in the oral and maxillofacial radiology field and in academia, NISOD International teaching and leadership excellence award, and recognized with a honorary membership by the National Society of Leadership and Success for her leadership role as predental club advisor where she continues to engage and mentor students in the field of Dentistry.
