A well defined Radiography Policies and Procedures document supports judicious and appropriate utilization of dental imaging that fosters easy, informed communication to patients.

This workbook is designed to help you think about the radiography portion of your dental practice and then to help you develop, or improve, your Radiography Policies and Procedures document. The workbook is built around three questions. By considering and answering these three questions, you will build a radiography and X-ray policy and procedure document to serve your practice.

The workbook is authored by S. Thomas Deahl DMD, Ph.D.
Dr. Deahl earned a DMD from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville's School of Dental Medicine, and a Ph.D. in Radiation Biology and certificates in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and in Oral Pathology from The University of Iowa. Tom is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. As a current faculty member at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Dental School, he teaches in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology residency, the Orthodontics residency, and helps lead the Evidence-Based Dentistry program. He is a reviewer for OOOO and for the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice. Tom previously practiced general dentistry in rural southern Illinois, taught at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, served as program director of the Dental Diagnostic Science postdoctoral program in San Antonio, and has served as a staff lecturer and consultant for the nonprofit health professions education group INR of Concord, California.
